T-Mobile switches on spam call protections for some cellphone users

note 9There seems to be an increase in spam calls these days, where many people are reporting that they are seeing an increase in the number of calls that they are receiving from strange numbers from a variety of countries. Given that these numbers are constantly changing, it makes it rather difficult to block them.However T-Mobile is hoping to do something about it in the form of a caller verification system that will identify legitimate calls. “Caller Verified is T-Mobile’s implementation of the STIR and SHAKEN standards. These standards combat illegal caller ID spoofing, which occurs when scammers temporarily hijack a phone number to match the area code and 3-digit prefix of the person they are targeting, making the incoming call look familiar.”This sounds like it would be immensely useful in users trying to identify calls that might be spam, and calls that might be legitimate from establishments they might not have the number of.
